Back to Norrath: Part 1

A few weeks ago I surprised myself by installing and logging into Everquest. I had been reading about the changes that had been made to the game over the years and wanted to see them for myself.

Sadly the between the games graphics and slow-dull early level fights, I did not even make it out of the newbie area. Though the fact that there is now a newbie area, and quest lines was impressive. Not impressive enough to keep playing eq1 but enough to make me long again for adventures in Norrath; I had been bitten by the eq bug.

Over the next couple of weeks, I spent time reading eq2 blogs and listening to podcasts. I started back a few years so I could experience the changes the game took, along with the writers/hosts. With each new change I heard about, the itch to play grew stronger. I kept telling myself all the reasons I stopped playing and not to bother, but I could not shake the urge to see for myself.

Good news for me, a new expansion to the game had just been released and it included all previous EQ2 releases. After a trading in a few old games, I now have the retail Rise of Kunark EQ2 box. Last Friday I spent the morning installing and patching so at lunch I could renter Norrath with a brand new character.; Airya the Fae Fury.
