{"id":347,"date":"2009-04-07T21:39:29","date_gmt":"2009-04-08T02:39:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.xenopulse.com\/blog\/?p=347"},"modified":"2009-04-07T21:41:51","modified_gmt":"2009-04-08T02:41:51","slug":"free-ride-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.xenopulse.com\/blog\/?p=347","title":{"rendered":"Free Ride"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday I stumbled upon a FlyFF and Rappelz, both of which are several years old and yet for some crazy reason I downloaded them.\u00c2  Today after installation and account creation I played both for a very short bit, during which I took a few notes.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>FlyFF<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I think I made it about 20 minutes into this before I quit.\u00c2  Right from the start this game threw stuff at me that I don&#8217;t like.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Zero ability for me to control how I control my character.<\/li>\n<li>Mini map that does not allow me to zoom in close enough to see anything.<\/li>\n<li>No way to turn off the chat bubbles and &#8220;store&#8221; names. This left my view so cluttered I could barely see.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.xenopulse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/flyff-store-clutter_sm.jpg\"><\/a><\/li>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-354\" title=\"Store Clutter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.xenopulse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/flyff-store-clutter_sm-300x187.jpg\" alt=\"Store Clutter\" width=\"300\" height=\"187\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.xenopulse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/flyff-store-clutter_sm-300x187.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.xenopulse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/flyff-store-clutter_sm.jpg 559w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<li>The chat window was useless since it was filled advertising spam(legit and non legit) in both shouts and says, with no way for me to filter them out, or ignore a person.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.xenopulse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/flyff-chat-spam_sm.jpg\"><\/a><\/li>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-356\" title=\"FlyFF chat spam\" src=\"https:\/\/www.xenopulse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/flyff-chat-spam_sm-300x187.jpg\" alt=\"FlyFF chat spam\" width=\"300\" height=\"187\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.xenopulse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/flyff-chat-spam_sm-300x187.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.xenopulse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/flyff-chat-spam_sm.jpg 559w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<li>lack of indicators for quest NPC locations. I quit my first session unable to find the &lt;food shop&gt;, which I needed for a quest.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If I was running that game, the first day on the job I would propose to remove the player stores from the starting area.\u00c2  Here is what it looks like currently:<\/p>\n<p>Next I would push to add some sort of filtering system on chat, or at least an ignore system, anything to limit the mass amount of chaos a new player faces in chat.<\/p>\n<p>I have not uninstalled it yet, and maybe (only a tiny chance) I will go back and give it another try.\u00c2  Though I saw very little offered in that game that I could not get from Runes of Magic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rappelz<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This game I played for more than an hour, maybe close to two.\u00c2  Granted a lot of that was reading the tutorial text and running from place to place, but it presented a much better first impression than FlyFF.<\/p>\n<p>The starting area only had a few &#8220;player stores&#8221; and since most my time there was spent outside the starting village I was able to mostly ignore the chat spam.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.xenopulse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/sframe-2009-04-07-21-19-59-37.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-372 aligncenter\" title=\"Rappelz first village\" src=\"https:\/\/www.xenopulse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/sframe-2009-04-07-21-19-59-37-380x213.jpg\" alt=\"Rappelz first village\" width=\"380\" height=\"213\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.xenopulse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/sframe-2009-04-07-21-19-59-37-380x213.jpg 380w, https:\/\/www.xenopulse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/sframe-2009-04-07-21-19-59-37-760x427.jpg 760w, https:\/\/www.xenopulse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/sframe-2009-04-07-21-19-59-37.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 380px) 100vw, 380px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The game did a good job leading me by the nose and teaching me their mechanics, in a much more cleaned out setting.\u00c2 \u00c2 \u00c2  Of course I have no idea if the game has some sort of built in restrictions, or if FlyFF is just that much more popular that the starting areas are shanty towns.<\/p>\n<p>Also note that not only does Rappelz lack any control customization, it offers zero keyboard movement controls.\u00c2 \u00c2  Which oddly, did not bother me as much as the game that offered KB movement with out customization.\u00c2  I suspect this is because without keyboard movement being there, my hand was not even resting on the keyboard.\u00c2 \u00c2  Left click to move, double click to start auto attack, click on shortcut bar to activate skills, all with one hand.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, only the character animations being good, and the camera shake on critical hits, have made the game the slightest bit interesting.\u00c2  As a player I do not feel as though I am doing anything exciting with my character, instead it all just point and click.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.xenopulse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/sframe-2009-04-07-21-22-17-40.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-373 aligncenter\" title=\"Rappelz Early Combat\" src=\"https:\/\/www.xenopulse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/sframe-2009-04-07-21-22-17-40-380x213.jpg\" alt=\"Rappelz Early Combat\" width=\"380\" height=\"213\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.xenopulse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/sframe-2009-04-07-21-22-17-40-380x213.jpg 380w, https:\/\/www.xenopulse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/sframe-2009-04-07-21-22-17-40-760x427.jpg 760w, https:\/\/www.xenopulse.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/sframe-2009-04-07-21-22-17-40.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 380px) 100vw, 380px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Controls aside, it did not come off a s &#8220;teeeerrrrible&#8221;
