Bookworm, part 2

So my reading quest continues as I completed three more books before the end of January; Contact Harvest, Foundation, and Foundation and Empire.

While I enjoyed Contact Harvest with its attempt at exploring parts of the Haloverse that have not been touched upon much in the games, it seems to elementary when followed up by works of the Sci-fi greatness that is Isaac Asimov. Where Harvest excels is in presenting details of the convenent’s species and culture, as well as the ‘culture’ of the human smart AIs. These parts of the book are the shinning points, while the rest , the main plot, were dull to me. Sadly I made the mistake of reading it so soon after the greatness that is The Lies of Locke Lamora and right before the Foundation books.

And speaking of the foundation books, I had thought for sure that somewhere in my past I had read them but reading through them now proved me wrong. They really are an amazing set of stories, and reading them is like stepping into a time machine. Asimov created such a believable future setting, filled with high technology and thought in a time before the birth of most modern technology. These are not stories of space battles and alien races. Nope, instead they are mysteries of human nature and stories about characters, not just stories with characters.

They are simply amazing, not only for entertainment but to see the foundations of modern science fiction stories.
